About BLIS

Bilkent Laboratory and International School (BLIS) was founded in March 1993 as the Bilkent University Preparatory School (BUPS), with the mission to promote academic, aesthetic, physical, and social growth. BUPS recognized and nurtured the individual abilities, interests, and talents of each child. The school emphasized the importance of questioning ideas, searching for knowledge, and fostering critical thinking, independent thought, and creativity. In September 1999, Bilkent International School (BIS) was created to cater to the educational needs of the international community. Over the course of its 24 years of operation, BUPS and BIS became an IB World School, authorized to offer both the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Diploma Programme, in addition to the IGCSEs. BLIS also gained accreditation from the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (USA), while becoming a member of various international educational organizations such as the European Council of International Schools, the International Schools Theatre Association, and the International Schools Sports Association. In 2009, BUPS/BIS transformed into a single laboratory school and officially became known as BLIS. Since its inception in 1993, BLIS has remained an integral part of the Bilkent family and operates under the auspices of the İhsan Doğramacı Foundation.

Located in the scenic hills of the Bilkent University East Campus, BLIS is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of its students. In response to tragic terror attacks in Turkey, particularly in Ankara, BLIS and Bilkent University took additional measures to enhance campus security. Security personnel now monitor all entrances to both the Bilkent campus and the school 24/7. Vehicles without a valid Bilkent or school sticker are not permitted on campus. There are two security checkpoints at the high school entrance: one to enter the Bilkent campus and another to enter the school premises. All buses entering the Bilkent campus are also thoroughly searched to ensure that only authorized individuals are allowed access. BLIS has two main entrances that remain open at all times, while a third is only accessible during specific hours. Additionally, the school can be accessed through any of the strict security-controlled entrances to the Bilkent campus.

Bilkent Laboratuvar ve Uluslararası Okulu (BLIS), Mart 1993'te Bilkent Üniversitesi Hazırlık Okulu (BUPS) olarak kurulmuş olup, akademik, estetik, fiziksel ve sosyal gelişimi desteklemeyi misyon edinmiştir. BUPS, her öğrencinin bireysel yeteneklerini, ilgi alanlarını ve yeteneklerini tanımış ve bunları geliştirmiştir. Okul, fikirleri sorgulamanın, bilgi arayışının önemini vurgulamış ve eleştirel düşünme, bağımsız düşünce ve yaratıcılığı teşvik etmiştir. Eylül 1999’da, uluslararası topluluğun eğitim ihtiyaçlarını karşılamak amacıyla Bilkent Uluslararası Okulu (BIS) kurulmuştur. 24 yıllık faaliyet süresi boyunca, BUPS ve BIS, IGCSE'lerin yanı sıra, Hem İlk Yıllar Programı (PYP) hem de Diploma Programı’nı sunmaya yetkilendirilmiş bir IB Dünya Okulu olmuştur. BLIS ayrıca, Uluslararası Okullar Konseyi ve New England Okullar ve Kolejler Derneği (ABD) tarafından akredite edilmiş, Avrupa Uluslararası Okullar Konseyi, Uluslararası Okullar Tiyatro Derneği ve Uluslararası Okullar Spor Derneği gibi çeşitli uluslararası eğitim organizasyonlarının üyesi olmuştur. 2009 yılında, BUPS/BIS tek bir laboratuvar okulu olarak dönüşmüş ve resmen BLIS olarak bilinmeye başlanmıştır. 1993'teki kuruluşundan bu yana BLIS, Bilkent ailesinin ayrılmaz bir parçası olmaya devam etmiş ve İhsan Doğramacı Vakfı'nın himayesinde faaliyet göstermektedir.

Bilkent Üniversitesi Doğu Kampüsü'nün doğal tepelerinde yer alan BLIS, öğrencilerinin güvenliği ve refahına öncelik vermektedir. Türkiye'deki, özellikle Ankara’daki trajik terör saldırıları sonrası, BLIS ve Bilkent Üniversitesi kampüs güvenliğini artırmak için ek önlemler almıştır. Artık güvenlik görevlileri, hem Bilkent kampüsünün hem de okulun tüm girişlerini 7/24 izlemektedir. Geçerli bir Bilkent ya da okul çıkartması bulunmayan araçlar kampüse alınmamaktadır. Lise girişinde iki güvenlik kontrol noktası bulunmaktadır: biri Bilkent kampüsüne giriş için, diğeri ise okul alanına giriş içindir. Ayrıca, Bilkent kampüsüne giren tüm otobüsler, yalnızca yetkili kişilerin kampüse girişine izin verildiğinden, titizlikle aranmaktadır. BLIS’in iki ana girişi her zaman açık olup, üçüncü giriş ise yalnızca belirli saatlerde erişilebilir durumdadır. Ayrıca okul, Bilkent kampüsündeki güvenlik kontrol noktalarından herhangi birinden erişilebilir.

JMUNESCO 2025 organizasyon ekibi olarak, 15. yıl dönümünde düzenlenen JMUNESCO konferansında, hem BLIS'te hem de Ankara’da geçireceğiniz zamanın unutulmaz olmasını diliyoruz.
